Are you trying for a baby, or thinking about trying for a baby?
A medical check-up before pregnancy is a good idea for all women to improve your chances of conceiving, reduce the risk of pregnancy complications, and ensure that you are ready for a healthy pregnancy. Good health leading into a pregnancy is well known to increase the chances of having a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. Many medical conditions of pregnancy can be prevented with good health and good planning.
At North Obstetrics, we take a holistic approach to pre-pregnancy planning. We ensure that you are in the best possible state of health, ready to embark on a pregnancy. We will discuss in detail your physical and mental health, lifestyle, family history and how all these factors interact in pregnancy.
We will provide advice on specific medical or surgical problems as they relate to pregnancy, and discuss any medications you are taking, and their safety in pregnancy.
It is also important to discuss any previous pregnancies you may have had, especially if you have experienced complications such as preterm birth or pregnancy loss. We will make an individualised plan with you to make future pregnancies as safe and well supported as possible.
We will organise pre-pregnancy blood testing to check your overall health and wellbeing and discuss the option of vaccinations prior to pregnancy where relevant. We can arrange screening for common genetic conditions and address preventative measures for conditions such as spina bifida.
After your visit, we will provide a summary of all the advice we have given, for you and for your General Practitioner.
